About
Nestled at 215 S Main St in Royal Oak, MI, Johnny's Speakeasy transports you to a world where the elegance of the past meets contemporary culinary creativity. This hidden gem invites you to revel in an intimate ambiance reminiscent of the Prohibition era, complete with craft cocktails and an exquisite small plate menu.
The moment you buzz in and share the secret password, you step into a cozy, eclectic space alive with the sounds of laughter, clinking glasses, and sizzling plates. It’s not just a meal; it’s an experience that begins with a delightful selection of cocktails such as the Old Smokey' Old Fashioned and Johnny's Manhattan, perfectly crafted to elevate your evening.
Now let's talk about the food. The culinary offerings are nothing short of spectacular, showcasing both creativity and quality. Among the highlights are the Crab and Shrimp Cakes and the Michigan Mushroom Arancini, each dish crafted not just to please the palate but also to create a memory. The pièce de résistance, however, is the Wagyu Beef Strudel, a luxurious indulgence that exemplifies the fine dining experience that Johnny's promises. As noted by patrons, the house-made pasta and unique appetizers like the Gruyere cheese and focaccia have left guests raving about their meals long after the last bite.
Then there's the service - or should I say the experience of being treated like a cherished guest. From attentive waitstaff to the thoughtful management, who may even suggest you move to a cozier spot, each moment feels personal. Many visitors have applauded the unique approach that makes Johnny's feel more like hanging out with friends than dining out.
But be mindful, as Johnny's does lean towards the pricier side. This is an investment in an experience rather than just a meal. As one visitor pointed out, “It’s not inexpensive, so plan accordingly." It’s clear that Johnny's Speakeasy is not just a restaurant; it's a celebration of flavors, craftsmanship, and the thrill of the unexpected.
So, whether you're looking for a romantic evening, a fun outing with friends, or simply a chance to indulge in delicious food and unique cocktails, Johnny's Speakeasy awaits your visit. Just remember, the first rule of Johnny's is we don’t talk about Johnny’s—at least, not until you’ve experienced it for yourself!
“ Great cocktails and ambience. It's a bit on the pricey side, but definitely an experience to have. Smoked old fashioned is one of the best you can have. ”
“ This place is awesome! Top notch! Christopher’s service was excellent... and I think the Manager Dave came to our table and asked if we wanted to move to the couch table area because it looked like we were cuddly and might be more comfortable... lol. Guess they wanted to showcase our pda to their other guests haha!! XOXO. Anyway- the food was amazing!! We got the Formage & focaccia.... It tasted like nothing I’ve ever eaten! Thank you for an awesome birthday Eve night! ”
“ Ok the first rule of Johnnys is we don’t talk about Johnnys! Johnmy’s is refreshing and unexpected. Been to quite a few Speakeasy like places, Johnnys is different. Most don’t serve food, and Johnnys just does serve food but they serve amazing food! The drinks are good and creative! If you get a chance ask for a Paper Plane. Sarah was our waitress and she was the star of the show! Funny, professional, and authentic! Felt like long time friends after the meal..thank you Sarah! Next time I want to drink out of the flower pot! ”
“ After watching Fox 2 Detroit one Saturday Morning, they featured Johnnys. I immediately made reservations for my husband and myself and 2 of our friends for the next month. We went on a Saturday evening around 6:30. We buzzed in with the password and walked down the stairs into a very cozy and eclectic space. Almost every table was full, as well as the bar. It was buzzing with activity, the drinks and food passing by looked wonderful. We ordered some great cocktails, a delicious Gruyere cheese and focaccia bread appetizer and enjoyed them immensely. For dinner we ordered some salads, steaks and an amazing wagyu beef wrapped in some type of pastry. For dessert we had espresso martinis and the fabulous creme brulee. It was an incredible experience and we will definitely return. It’s not an inexpensive place, so plan accordingly. ”
“ Fun from the start: the buzzing in, giving the password and being seated at a comfy table. Craft cocktails were delicious. I got a rose in my drink! The food was divine- house made pasta- Soo good! The server was delightful and the sommelier picked the perfect glass of wine. Everything was wonderful, every detail! Love this hidden gem! ”
“ My first visit & will most certainly be returning. The atmosphere was devine, Sheila & Rick were performing which really enhanced the atmosphere. Drinks from Joe were top notch! Taylor had a plethora of good recommendations & was incredibly sweet. Everything i ordered was decadent, especially the lollipop lamb chops. Even the manager Dave stopped by to ensure my experience was wonderful. Overall an amazing time , i highly recommend, just might be my new favorite spot in Royal Oak! ”
“ From the time we walked in everything was amazing. The maitre D was inviting. Our waitress Angela was amazing. The food and the drinks get a , and a 10x10 review . I had the lamb pasta, and my husband had the prime steak and it was seasoned to perfection. My husband asked our waitress was Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen cooking lol. I must say it was A1. A must visit. ”
“ I’m always very impressed by this speakeasy’s cocktails, and I think it’s SUPER cool they offer an absinthe service!! For the food and drinks, everything tastes SO fresh and delicious! I’ve had some of the tastiest food on my life just in this speakeasy! I highly recommend the charcuterie board the and the Alchemi salad as a basis of how good everything is! The crab cakes were also to DIE for! I cannot wait to work through this menu as a repeat guest to this awesome place! They play all my favorite types of electro-swing music and oldies covers down there with a very nice and chill 1920s prohibition era style setup. Their bathrooms are also very neat! I haven’t been to the restaurant above the bar yet but I can’t wait to try it considering how good the options are downstairs! Long story kinda short, if you like speakeasies, and you like the prohibition era/1920s/1930s vibe and music, you’ll love this place! They have excellent bartenders working down there and you’re sure to have a very nice, immersive and recreational experience! (They also do live music on Sunday evenings with a lovely couple who performs wonderful jazz!) ”
